Food / Clothing Assistance
The ministry's main purpose is to provide food to those in need. The amount of food provided depends upon the number in the family and the amount of food we have available on hand. Our goal is to provide food for approximately five days or longer. This food (obtained from Second Harvest Food Bank) is available every three months.
First-time clients should bring the following items to the Ministry to receive food:
1. Social Security cards or any official document with
the SS # for everyone in the household
2. Proof of income for entire household
3. Proof of residency in Anson County
4. Proof of food stamps
Frequently during the year, we also are able to provide other miscellaneous items in the food vouchers. For example during 2009, we distributed white potatoes, sweet potatoes, yellow squash, bananas, bagels, oranges, juices, flavored milk, etc.
Separately from the food distribution above, ACM has free USDA food to distribute each month. Every person in Anson County is eligible to receive this free government food if they reside in Anson County and gross income falls within the guidelines. Food is distributed each day; however, recipients may pick up food only once each month (early in the month is best). Available food items vary from month to month.
Second hand and gently used clothing and household items are available for sale at Hidden Secrets thrift shop. All proceeds from sales are used to purchase food at Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte and to assist with other costs. All items at Hidden Secrets have been priced at exceptionally low prices to accommodate our clients and their needs. Fire Victims and inmates are eligible for free clothing. Hidden Secrets is open to the public.
